Watson Wyatt’s Human Capital Study found that the quality of employee communications increases profitability.  The HRSB provides the important employee documents on-line directly through the Employee Portal including:

·        Employee Handbook

·        Standard Operating Procedures

·        Policies

·        Summary Plan Descriptions

·        Company calendar showing events, holiday schedule etc.

·        Organizational Charts

·        Company Directory

By having these or other documents on the employee portal, the company saves the cost of paper and duplicating each for each employee.  In addition, each time an employee communication is updated; the organization does not have to republish the document or just be satisfied with it being out-of-date.  The government requires that benefit summary plan descriptions be sent to each employee each time there is a change to the plan.  Having this information on-line satisfies this requirement while saving the print and distribution costs.

The HRSB recommends that the organization have an up-to-date Employee Handbook, whether it is on-line or not.  The policies and procedures established in this document not only help employees navigate through their life-cycle with the company, but provide important legal protection for the company against discrimination law-suits and governmental penalties.   A standard Employee Handbook template is provided for those that do not have one for HRSB clients.

Company Directory -  Ever notice how the company directory always seems out of date.  Every time an employee is hired or leaves; or when an employee is relocated, the directory really should be updated and reissued to everyone.  But, reissuing is a time consuming chore.  With the HRSB every employee has an up to date company directory at their finger tips.  You may even choose to include a picture.

Employee Surveys - For progressive organizations, employee surveys can provide an effective mechanism for employees to provide crucial feedback to the organization’s executive and managers.  It offers a gauge of employee attitudes towards the company, which can aid the company in improving morale, performance and productivity.  The HRSB provides an automated approach to conduct employee surveys on-line, anonymously.  The HRSB has a standard employee survey that offers several common survey dimensions.  Additional dimensions or questions can be readily added. 

The organization should develop, as nearly as possible, a standard survey to allow for tracking improvements from one period to the next.  As an independent party, the HRSB offers anonymity to the employees, an important factor in acquiring truthful feedback. The HRSB can summarize the survey results and prepare graphs for the organization to review regarding survey results.

Pat On the Back - The HRSB offers a fun feedback tool for over-stressed and over-stretched employees and managers as an optional addition to the Employee Portal.  The tool will take basic information from the employee's record to construct positive feedback for the employee.  Everybody knows how demanding today’s jobs are.   Stretched managers do not have the time to thank employees for their efforts as often as they would like.  Pat on the back will do so.  For example:

     “Thank you Jennifer Walsh for the fine job you are doing in the Customer Service Department as a Customer Service Representative.  We appreciate the twelve years you have been with the North Coast Company and wish you continued success.  Please express our best wishes to your husband Jim and your two lovely daughters Brittany and Carrie
      We notice that you will be on vacation in two weeks.  We sincerely hope that you will enjoy your time off, find in relaxing and come back to North Coast with renewed energy.
       We also noticed that you recently completed a course on  Advanced  Customer Service.  Thank you, for making this effort to improve your education and job performance.
” 

This is a tongue-in-cheek pat on the back, but so many workers and managers would enjoy a little appreciation, even if it is from the system.
